Come Wading with Us
As you may know from a previous dept.-wide email I sent, dozens of soft-skill lesson plan ideas have been available on Palomar's Blackboard Sandbox site. An easy way to access the site is by using the search box on Palomar's main homepage. Just type "sandbox" and then click on the first link on the results screen. You will then need to use your Palomar network access credentials to enter your Sandbox. This is the exact same set of credentials you use to enter your Blackboard course site.
I've seen colleagues using the mini-motivational poster, the lesson ideas on setting priorities using "a jar of life," and the powerful time management quadrants. As we near the midpoint of the semester, you may want to have your students revisit your syllabus. Then, the file named "Interactive Syllabus" offers an idea for you to have your students do just that. It is located in the "Starting TIDES" section.
Most of the files are Word documents saved in the rft format, meaning they can be opened by any word processing/editing program and then customized to suit the needs of your particular class.
Please continue to choose from the dozens of files that comprise TIDES as you find ways to teach active learning and student responsibility. We need to look closer at how these materials are helping to make a difference in shaping attitudes, behaviors, and classroom dynamics. So if you have noticed success stories, positive changes, etc., please share with the rest of us right away.
