Is student writing headed for the dumpster? Stanford's Professor Andrea Lunsford doesn't think so. Having done research on the effects of the new media on today's writers, she concludes, "[W]e're in the midst of a literacy revolution the likes of which we haven't seen since Greek civilization." Not everyone sees eye to eye with Lunsford. Many people see only the downside of the net, arguing quantity of online writing does not equal quality. Still, more and more people have come to realize that times have changed, and that the new literacy should legitimately include such new media as chats and texting. What do you think?
