How Can Students Be Motivated to Do Assignments and Retain Information? This is the title of a very successful presentation by Suzanne Woodward at the ALL Learner-Centered Conference back in February. "The topic is getting students to do homework assignments (reading or writing)," Suzanne writes in a personal email, "so they can participate in group discussions/projects the next day." The motivation, as you may have guessed from her message, is the importance of accountability, and Suzanne, a creative ESL practitioner and prolific ESL conference presenter, promises an encore worthy of her entire 45 minutes at the CATESOL San Diego Chapter Fall 2015 PD Workshop on October 10th.
The second presentation next month by Suzanne Woodward at this semester's ALL Learner-Centered Conference will be as popular as her first, and Suzanne, whose style is hands-on, has practical reasons for giving her talks. For example, not all students who just jump in right after an assignment is given are aware of all the subtlety of their teacher's instructions. Her presentation on October 24th will be a workshop with a guide to making your students better listeners by paying attention to directions on assignments and quizzes.
After wowing the audiences at both the first and the second ALL Conferences, Suzanne will let you pick her brain for engaging advice again.
Suzanne will not be the only presenter from our dept. at the ALL Conference next month. Katrina Tamura as well as Angela Webster and Sheri Cully have all submitted proposals.
