A truly amazing and inspirational story just came from a slum near a landfill in Paraguay. These poor people refuse to be victims. Instead, they act as creators - creating musical instruments out of other people's throwaway scraps, making beautiful music that enriches their lives, and maintaining the natural human dignity that does not depend on a bank account. If I have time in my last class of the semester this finals week, I will show the clip to my students and have a thought-provoking pep talk about how important it is to make the most of one's circumstances and never give up on one's dreams.
