We know that as ESL instructors, if we can bring in intelligent, engaging, and resonant narratives to the classroom, student retention will follow. NPR's Story Corps, New York Times' One in 8 Million, and "Voices of ESL," a podcast of my students' stories and insights, can not only be level-appropriate listening materials but also serve as a model for making our students' voices heard.
I hate to be a shameless plug, but "Voices of ESL" is devoted to students, so if you have a student who would like to be recorded, please put them in touch with me.
