Writing in a Formal Register

Writing papers might sound like a straightforward task for higher-level students, but this productive activity is actually quite demanding due to the gap between many ESL students' default conversational register and the formal academic register expected of writers. The lack of precise vocabulary is one of the factors contributing to many students writing the way they talk. The ELF workshop this Friday can help to transform a typical student writer into one who is aware of using academic register.
