Many ESL professors at community colleges up and down the state are alarmed by some of the proposals, believing that we cannot
- create the kind of "success" narrowly defined in the proposals while ignoring the radical differences between adult ed, noncredit ESL, and credit ESL
- lump ESL indiscriminately with "basic skills" as just remedial courses
- eliminate ESL courses more than one level below English 100 from community colleges
