Teaching Real Writing

Martha C. Pennington of Georgia Southern U. has teamed up with a colleague in Hong Kong and come out with a timely anthology for writing teachers. The authors of The College Writing Toolkit ask what teachers can do to really engage today's college students in writing classes, many of whom are ESL. The contributors, by sharing and explaining their learning activities, seek to turn the table on literature-based approach to teaching writing and give us knowledge about the best practices in the field today when our students are tech-savvy and speak English as a second language. Here is a review of the book and an interview with the authors that came out a couple days ago.
