Buying Microsoft Office 2007 Software

Hi,

If you would like to purchase Microsoft Office 2007 for home use, try buying it through the Foundation for Community Colleges (http://www.foundationccc.org/CollegeBuys/AboutCollegeBuys/tabid/238/Default.aspx). The link can also be found on the Academic Technology and Instructional Services web pages. There are two versions of Microsoft Office:

1) Office Enterprise 2007 (contains 2007 versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, OneNote, Access, Communicator, Groove, and InfoPath)
- $45

2) Microsoft Professional Plus 2007 (contains 2007 versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, Access, Communicator, and InfoPath - excludes OneNote and Groove)
- $79.98

It's a bit of a hassle since you have to fax or mail in proof of employment, but I've never see these programs cheaper , except at swapmeets in Asia.

Thanks for sharing this valuable perk for working at Palomar, Gary.

People may be wondering why Microsoft Professional Plus 2007, which contains fewer applications than Microsoft Enterprise 2007, costs more than the latter.

Here's a technical explanation. You can only purchase the $45 MS Office Enterprise 2007 if you choose "Work at Home" on the FCCC purchase site. "Work at Home" means that you are not buying the software, but rather you are just leasing the media (the DVD in this case) to use for work at home.

However, if you choose "Academic Select" on the webpage, you will be buying the software of MS Office Professional 2007 to own. Such is Microsoft's way of differentiating leasing and buying, but with two different packages with different prices.
