Use of Commas

"You're just such a comma-happy student," I like to say that as a student shows me her paragraph full of comma splices. On the other hand, lack of commas produces run-ons, and there is often a lack of clarity when misplaced commas are applied.

Commas form an important part of standard written English. A case in point: A recent New York Times article was headlined: "Lack of Oxford Comma Could Cost Maine Company Millions in Overtime Dispute."

ESL Tutor Christl Dorsey, whose work has covered both individual appointments and classroom settings, will give a workshop this Friday, which will see attendees leave with a better understanding of the comma.
