Although Amy Purdy's story has been heard, although the format of TED talks has been faulted for keeping discourse limited, I still feel compelled to see things her way and to accept the moral she attaches to her story. Despite the depression-inducing nature of her conditions, she finds a new purpose in life when she decides to defy its limitations.
As the fall semester is just around the corner and as we struggle with low enrollment, the parallel between Amy's life and our reality is quite strong. Despite the many barriers that impede people's access to college, we remain champions for the best interests of Palomar's ESL student population, both matriculated and prospective. Overcoming limitations may very well be our sense of mission for the community and our purpose in life as well.
