Three Colleagues to Present at Active Learning Conference

At the first-ever learner-centered teaching conference organized by Palomar's ALL (Active Learning Leaders) faculty group and slated to be held on campus next month, three of the 21 planned breakout sessions will be given by our fellow teachers from the ESL Dept.

Suzanne Woodward will present student-centered activities designed to check student comprehension while encouraging conversation and learning among students. Katrina Tamura's session will focus on using video and/or voice recordings on cellphones as an empowerment technique for students to practice specific language points, reflect on their own production, and then use the language to communicate in the real world. Larry Lawson will also show how smartphones can be tools and not trouble in the classroom thanks to Socrative, a free student response "clicker" system accessible via the web. Participants will learn how to spice up syllabus review, reading-based classroom discussions, homework checking, and exam prep with this fun and easy tool.

Read more about these and other hands-on workshops by clicking here for a draft copy of the conference program. Then, register for attending this very useful conference here before all the seats are gone.

There will also be many raffle prizes, by the way.
