It is a pleasure to wish all of my colleagues a happy, peaceful, and productive new year in 2010. Speaking of productivity, I thought I would share an 18-minute TED talk by Daniel H. Pink on what motivates people. Pink is the author of such provocative books as The Whole New Mind and Drive. Although his three elements of true motivation--autonomy, mastery, and purpose--are directed at the business world, they have implications for our classrooms.
