PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The noncredit English as a Second Language (ESL) program at MiraCosta offers students continuous and varied opportunities to achieve proficiency in the English language that prepares them to discover and reach their individual, personal, academic, vocational and/or civic goals. The program offers seven levels of ESL instruction from literacy to the highest level that bridges to credit academic and vocational courses. The program also offers distance learning, citizenship preparation, vocational and off-site multi-level courses.
POSITION AVAILABLE: One full-time (10 months per year), tenure-track, noncredit ESL instructor position beginning in August 2009 under the direction of Community Education. The person selected for this position will be subject to assignment at any district facility during any hours of operation; evening hours will be required. The standard work week is forty (40) hours. The standard instructional work week will consist of thirty-three (33) hours of instructional time, including eighteen (18) LHE (Lecture Hour Equivalent) of instructional assignments with the remaining hours devoted to curriculum development, preparation and student evaluation, two (2) scheduled office hours as described in the Faculty Handbook, and five (5) hours of departmental activities and collegial governance.
