What Is the Purpose of Final Exams, Anyway?

Have you ever wondered if the traditional final exam is the best way to gauge whether learning has taken place? Kevin Gannon, Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning and Professor of History at Grand View University in Iowa, suggests such alternatives as asking students to connect materials learned to other courses or experiences. Finals Week at the ESL Tutoring Center

The ESL Tutoring Center will be open during Finals Week! We will be open on Monday (12/10) from 9AM – 5PM, Tuesday (12/11) from 9AM – 5PM, and Wednesday (12/12) from 9AM – 5PM.

During Finals Week, tutoring appointments will not be necessary, and tutoring sessions will be offered on a first-come, first-served walk-in basis. A tutoring sign-up sheet will be available to students, and if a student is not present for their session, the next student will be called. Students are also welcome to come and use the ESL Tutoring Center as a study space.
